Nato in Oriente o forse in Africa, non solo accessorio di bellezza o utile per mantenere in ordine i capelli, era soprattutto un copricapo parlante che raccontava le proprie origini, l’appartenenza a una tribù e persino ad una ristretta cerchia sociale.

Giunge in Brasile come accessorio per capelli dall’Africa nell’epoca della tratta degli schiavi. Nel 700′ si diffonde in Europa e particolarmente in Francia quale nuovo dettaglio della moda femminile. Bisogna però aspettare il XX secolo perché diventi un accessorio di alta moda con lo stilista Poiret: il look anni 20′ deve molto al turbante nel ricreare uno charme elegante, raffinato ed esotico.

Born in the East or perhaps in Africa, not just a beauty accessory or useful for keeping hair in order, it was above all a talking headdress that told of one’s origins, belonging to a tribe and even to a small social circle.
He comes to Brazil as a hair accessory from Africa in the era of the slave trade. In the 1700s it spreads in Europe and particularly in France as a new detail of women’s fashion. However, we have to wait until the twentieth century for it to become a high fashion accessory with the stylist Poiret: the 1920s look owes a lot to the turban in recreating an elegant, refined and exotic charm.
